Everything You Need to Know About Industrial Hemp CBD Products

You’ve probably heard a lot about the wonders of CBD oil and other products derived from cannabis. Yes, most of what you’ve heard about CBD is true – the good stuff, anyway. But little has been said about where CBD oil comes from — the industrial hemp plant.

Surprised? Did you think industrial hemp products only include things like fibers, paper, plastic, and other non-food grade products?

The fact is that industrial hemp, like agricultural hemp, can also be used to produce oils, ointments, and even consumable products.

What is industrial hemp?

Industrial HempIndustrial hemp is a strain of the Cannabis sativa plant species. It is specifically grown for the many industrial uses of its derived products, hence the name. It’s sort of a wonder plant, and can be processed into many commercial items including (but not limited to) biofuel, paint, paper, textiles, insulation biodegradable plastics — even food.

One of the major differences between industrial hemp and its agricultural counterpart is the fact that the industrial variety has lower concentrations of THC, while the concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD) is higher. Meaning that it has decreased psychoactive effects.

Three cool facts

To get better acquainted with industrial hemp, let’s look at some cool facts about it:

  1. It’s green

Yes, the color of the growing plant is pretty obvious, but that’s not what we mean. Hemp is one of the most environmentally safe raw materials known to man. For example:

  • An acre of hemp can produce as much fiber as three acres of cotton. Hemp also requires no pesticides and little to no fertilizers.
  • Hemp can be used to make paper and wood only 120 days after being planted. Trees, on the other hand, can take up to 10 years before they can be harvested for the same purpose.
  • Need clean fuel? Hemp could be the answer as it can be converted into clean-burning ethanol fuel. Since it produces more biomass than any known plant species, it has the potential to become a major source of biofuel fuel.
  1. Hemp seeds are a superfood

Hemp seeds contain a powerful protein that is more nutritious than soybeans. The industrial hemp seeds can also be used to make any product that can be derived from soybeans as well, for example:

  • Veggie burgers
  • Cheese, milk, ice cream,  and butter
  • Tofu
  • Pasta
  • Bread (or cookies)

The list can go on and on. Additionally, hemp seed oil is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, and it’s far more economical to grow than soybean plants.

  1. Industrial hemp works medical wonders

Hemp seed oil is very nutritious and helps promote:

  • Skin health
  • Brain health
  • Heart health

Oils derived from industrial hemp are also great for treating pain and reducing muscle tension

Renaissance of an ancient super plant

Hemp is one of the first fibers that humanity used to spin into fiber over 10,000 years ago. Throughout the ages, its uses have varied, touching nearly every facet of life. Today, hemp is beginning to reclaim its honor.
